Could not start FMCore

Description

This article describes common troubleshooting steps if the Type Core for Suitcase Fusion or Universal Type Client for Mac OS X will not start.

Solution

Reset the FMCore process

  1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
  2. Copy&paste the following location into the “Go to the folder” field and click the "Go" button.
  3. ~/.Extensis
  4. Drag the FMCore folder to the Trash.
  5. Launch Suitcase Fusion or UT-Client.

Reset User Preferences

  1. In the Finder, go to /Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences.
  2. Users of Mac OS X 10.7 and higher can get to their Library folder by holding the Option key down and choosing Go > Library
  3. Delete any files that begin with:
    • com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion
    • com.extensis.UniversalTypeClient
  4. Launch Suitcase Fusion or UT-Client

Create a new font vault in Suitcase Fusion

  1. In the Finder, go to /Users/[Username]/Library/Extensis/Suitcase Fusion.
  2. Users of Mac OS X 10.7 and later can get to their Library folder by holding the Option key down and choosing Go > Library
  3. Move the Suitcase Fusion.fontvault to the desktop
  4. Launch Suitcase Fusion

Clear the client datastore in UT-Client

  1. In the Finder, go to /Library/Extensis/UTC
  2. Select all of the folders inside of the UTC folder and move them to the trash
  3. Launch UT-Client
