I can’t open Suitcase Fusion or Univeral Type Client for Mac OS to open; error messages refer to the type core or FMcore being unable to start.
This article applies to Suitcase Fusion 2 through Suitcase Fusion 5, and Universal Type Client 5 and earlier versions, on all supported versions of Mac OS.
This article covers general troubleshooting steps for when you can’t launch Suitcase Fusion or UTC, and are getting error messages referring to the type core or FMcore being unable to start.
After each set of steps, try opening Suitcase Fusion or UTC.
NOTE: In Mac OS X 10.7 and later the user’s Library folder is not visible in the Finder. To reach the Library folder, hold the Option key down and click on the Go menu in the Finder; there will now be a “Library” menu option with no keyboard shortcut.
Selecting “Library” takes you to the user’s Library folder.
Go to /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/ in the Finder and drag the following files, if present, to the Trash:
Go to /Users/Username/Library/Extensis/Suitcase Fusion/ in the Finder. Drag the Suitcase Fusion.fontvault to the desktop. When you launch Suitcase Fusion, it will create a new font vault.
If you have to collect your fonts out of the old font vault:
Go to /Library/Extensis/UTC/ in the Finder. Select any folders present and drag them to the Trash. When you launch UTC, it will create a new user datastore; after you enter your username and password, UTC will sync with Universal Type Server and download your workgroups, sets, and fonts.
